Fall prevention in geriatrics

From frailty to function

With increasing age, functional limitations often occur due to frailty, an increased risk of falls and neuro-orthopaedic disorders. This practice-oriented course teaches evidence-based physiotherapy strategies to maintain and improve the functionality of older people and to prevent falls and the progression of neurological and orthopaedic deficits.

Aim of the course

Participants will learn to carry out frailty-specific assessments, create customized treatment plans and apply effective training methods in the therapy of older people. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical interventions that can be used in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Contents among others

  • Recognizing and assessing frailty (frailty syndrome)
  • Prevention and training approaches for people at risk of falling
  • Treatment of age-related neurological-orthopaedic changes (sarcopenia, joint degeneration, neurodegenerative diseases)
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered therapy planning
  • Practical exercises & case studies

Target group

Physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports therapists and other professionals in the geriatric or neurological-orthopaedic field.

Prerequisites

Completed vocational training in the field of therapy or comparable qualification; interest in geriatric and neurological-orthopaedic issues.

Information

  • Duration: 2 days attendance and hybrid / 16 teaching units (alternatively customizable according to provider)
  • Completion: Certificate of participation (with continuing education points according to § 125 SGB V, if applicable)
